The Hernando County Sheriff s Office provides law enforcement services to a population of more than 146,000 people. It is certified by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, and is located in Spring Hill, Fla. The sheriff s office manages an operations bureau that operates crime analysis, patrol, narcotics and forensics units. The Hernando County Sheriff s Office also has a service bureau that consists of communications, judicial services and community personnel sections. Its Drug Abuse Resistance Education program (D.A.R.E.) is a national curriculum taught by the sheriff s deputies in public and private schools. The Hernando County Sheriff s Office also operates programs for youths and manages a group of more than 2,500 volunteers.
