My name is Isaac M aka Darkwood. I started out drawing ever since I can remember. I then decided to become a professional tattoo artist at the age of 25. I raised the money to gain the correct professional equipment. I started out slow.
In 2008 I got my first apprentice opportunity @ TATTOOED PLANET in Tempe, AZ. I did nothing but scrub tubes, clean other artist tubes, set ups and tear downs, not to mention the odd jobs. I learned about tattoo procedures, as well as my blood borne, CPR, and first aid certifications. The time there was about a month, but I didn’t get discouraged. In 2008 I meet Ex NFL Player from the Detroit Lions, Pete Manly. He owned a small custom shop called GAME PLAN TATTOO. This is where I met local artist David Lee from Electric Illusions. I used the documentation of my previous work to do small tattoos. Such as, names, zodiacs, kanji characters, mainly anything you picked small, or medium size; I stuck it. I practiced drawing anything people wanted for a small tattoo concept. With every yes, and happy customer I gained confidence. I soon proved myself as a fairly competent artist for custom work. I was under the supervision of the entire shop. At the peak there were 4 of us At Game Plan Tattoo. I worked there for close to a year.
Soon after that in 2009, I moved to north PHOENIX INK and began working @ PHOENIX INK 2 in Young Town. David lee, (the owner of ELECTRIC ILLUSIONS) had pulled me on board @ PHOENIX INK 2 as his working apprentice. I have worked with him for a couple of years learning different technique and styles of tattooing; as well as different medias of drawing and painting. He taught me how to do cover-ups and custom work on the fly. I respect his teaching and kept true to the craft. In 2010 the shop moved back to the original location of PHOENIX INK in Phoenix. All the same crew plus Kevin Llyod moved to the phoenix location due to Grand ave’s construction. With The new location we were there for about a year before It was time for me to move on to new employment. Soon After in 2011, Kevin and Aaron Met up with another shop Called HIGH ALTITUDE in Glendale and asked me to come aboard. I stayed there for some time. I would switch from between the two HIGH ALTITUDE locations.
From there, I have been opened and operating under SLUNG CITY INK. In January 2014 I worked for the infamous Connie Corona from CMTs “Tattoo Titans” and at VENOMOUS INK on 5118s w. northern in Glendale AZ. Now I am work as the senior artist at REBEL INK TATTOO in the same location, just new owners. I am now happy to say I am a body piercing artist under the talented Bree Fisher who is our Glendale senior full body piercing artist. I am an artist in this growing modern day industry. I enjoy doing all styles of skin and body modifications.
