Since 1984, Southwood Psychiatric Hospital has been a leading provider of quality mental health care, education, and assisted living services for children, adolescents, and young adults, ages 4 to 21. Our 60-bed acute inpatient psychiatric program serves children and adolescents between the ages of 4 and 18. The average length of stay in this program is six days, and the focus is on evaluation, diagnosis, stabilization, and the initiation of treatment, as well as connecting patients with community-based continuing care resources. Our treatment philosophy is based upon the belief that, when provided with effective guidance within a safe and highly structured therapeutic milieu, young people who are struggling with mental health issues can develop new skills and achieve personal growth. From acute treatment in a secure facility to in-home care provided by community-based providers, it is essential that patients and their families receive the type and level of services that have been specifically designed to help them to achieve their unique objectives.
