The Special Music School operates through a public and private partnership between New York City Community School District 3 and the Kaufman Center. It is one of the leading public elementary schools in the United States. The school s music curriculum includes private instrumental lessons in piano, violin and cello. The Special Music School also offers classes in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, musical theater and music appreciation. Its after-school programs include homework assistance, chess club, and jazz dance and rollerblading classes. In addition, the school has a parent-teacher association that sponsors school picnics and classroom supplies. The Special Music School is located in New York City and serves students in kindergarten through grade eight.
