Springfield Urban League is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, civil rights and community-based movement that serves nearly 6,000 individuals annually. The organization enables African-Americans, other minority groups and the underprivileged to exercise their full human rights as American citizens. It provides direct services, research and policy advocacy to assist individuals and communities. Springfield Urban League employs more than 100 professionally staffed affiliates in over 35 U.S. states. The organization operates the Community Health Training Center that offers maternal, child health and nutrition-related programs and computer-based instruction. Its GEAR-UP Program increases the number of students who participate in middle and high schools. Founded in 1926, Springfield Urban League is headquartered in Springfield, Ill.
