The Pathology Department at St. Joseph provides a range of surgical pathology services. It also offers various diagnostic services, including operating room consultation, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. The department s cytopathology section is equipped with a variety of specimens to handle gynecological, medical-surgical and needle aspiration biopsies. The Pathology Department at St. Joseph is a part of the St. Joseph Medical Center, which is an acute care, regional medical center located in Towson, Md. Founded in 1864, it has more than 350 beds and employs over 1,000 physicians and nearly 2,000 nurses and allied health care professionals. The center features a medical, surgical, pediatric inpatient, ambulatory surgery, postanesthesia and critic care units. Its neonatal intensive care unit provides treatment and care services for infants suffering from lung diseases and complications stemming from premature birth. The St. Joseph Medical Center also consists of approximately 20 operating suites that are equipped with multiple operating rooms for open-heart surgeries.
