The Staten Island Mental Health Society, also known as SIMHS, is a private, nonprofit agency that provides a range of behavioral care and related services for children up to the age of 16. It serves children suffering from various neurological disorders, emotional disturbances, behavioral problems, developmental and learning disabilities, and alcohol and drug addictions. With a staff of more than 300 professionals, the agency serves over 5,000 individuals each year. The Staten Island Mental Health Society s Children's Community Mental Health Center offers child abuse prevention, individual and family counseling, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment solutions. It also manages Elizabeth W. Pouch Center for special people, which has been caring for children, infants, adolescents and adults with special needs since 1974.
