Scaling and root planing (deep cleaning)
This procedure is done under local anesthetic (being numb). The purpose of this procedure is to remove all the bacteria and toxins from the root surfaces so that the gum can heal and re-attach to the tooth.
Antibiotic treatment
Local or systemic antibiotic treatment can be helpful in conjunction with non-surgical therapies.
Maintenance therapy
Regular maintenance visits are recommended to examine, clean, and if needed, retreat certain teeth to ensure that the periodontal disease remains under control. In most cases, maintenance visits are scheduled on an alternating basis with your general dentist.
Surgical Treatments
All surgical treatments are done in our office under local anesthetic (being numb). Pre-surgery medication is available to reduce anxiety. We ask that all surgical patients have a driver with them.
Periodontal Access Surgery
Depending upon the response to scaling and root planing, this procedure may be recommended to further improve your ability to remove bacteria during your normal homecare. The primary advantage to this procedure is that it allows Dr. Sukmonowski better access to the diseased areas.
