In 1995, a group of passionate, committed health educators and breast cancer survivors did more than just imagine. They acted by founding the San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since its inception in 1995, Komen San Diego has awarded grants totaling more than $9 million dollars to local organizations that have made valuable contributions to breast cancer diagnostics, treatment, education, screening and patient support.
Through events and donations, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is able to bring funding and hope to the fight against breast cancer. Each year the Komen Race for the Cure, 5k, and the Breast Cancer 3Day, raise significant funds and awareness for breast cancer, celebrating breast cancer survivorship and honoring those who have lost their battle with the disease.
