Sylvia's House is an eight-bed facility that provides home-based hospice care. It is located in Ocala, Fla., and is operated by Hospice of Marion County, which also operates assisted living centers, skilled nursing facilities and hospitals. It is a nonprofit organization that serves individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and pulmonary and heart diseases. The organization s staff is comprised of physicians, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, chaplains, massage therapists and grief counselors. Founded in 1983, Hospice of Marion County provides the Transitions program, which includes assistance during and after medical treatment for serious illnesses. The program provides case management services and assistance with chores, errands and food preparation.
