Founded in 1935, Tacoma Art Museum is a charitable organization that serves the communities of the Northwest through its collection, exhibitions and learning programs. It features the artwork of various international, national and regional artists. The museum s collection includes more than 3,400 items, such as glass art and Japanese wood-block prints. Tacoma Art Museum administers educational programs that feature lectures and discussions by local and internationally known artists, as well as film screenings, poetry and book readings, and dance, musical and theatrical performances. It conducts a variety of camp programs that include art making activities, exhibition tours and field trips for youths. The museum also offers several types of membership options. In addition, it provides various teacher development programs. Tacoma Art Museum is a member of the Washington Art Consortium, which jointly owns and maintains over 270 works on paper by several American artists.
