Established in 1993 and located in San Antonio, Texas Diabetes Institute is one of the largest centers providing diabetes and related education services in the United States. The institute offers a wide range of care services for patients with diabetes mellitus and provides a multidisciplinary approach to health promotion, patient education, professional training, treatment and research. It also provides patient care and community amenities, which include an auditorium, caf and grill, library, demonstration kitchen, fitness center and chapel. Texas Diabetes Institute is a collaborative effort of the University Health System and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. University Health Systems specializes in cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, nutrition, epilepsy, endoscopy, orthopaedics, urology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and otolaryngology. It offers various medical programs and services, such as detention services, emergency and newborn services, outpatient surgery, primary and respiratory care, transplant services, and women's health services.
