Sleep apnea is a potentially life-threatening condition and is one of the most under-diagnosed of all sleep disorders. Sleep apnea is a highly treatable disorder in which a person stops breathing, often hundreds of times a night, without ever realizing it. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (O.S.A.), the more common form of sleep apnea is associated with obstructions of airflow to the lungs during sleep. This is brought on by a collapse of the upper airway at the back of the throat. Central Apnea is a less common form of sleep apnea in which the brain fails to signal the breathing muscles. Mixed Sleep Apnea is associated with having both central and obstruction issues.
