Operational since 1978, The Children s Place has been working towards the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Based in Kansas City, Mo., it specializes in working with traumatized young children and is focused on providing for the developmental/mental health needs of victims of child abuse, neglect and other trauma. The center offers its services in the categories of day treatment, outpatient, parenting support, training and advocacy. This includes speech/occupational therapy, nutritional assessment, psychological/psychiatric evaluations and diagnosis, play therapy/socialization and in-home parent aide services, among others. The Children s Place has accreditation from the Joint Commission and the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
