Thunderbolt Elementary, established in 1968, is an educational institution that is governed by the Savannah-Chatham County School System, which serves more than 33,960 students through various elementary, middle and high schools. The school educates over 670 students in prekindergarten through grade five. It provides accelerated reader and special and gifted education programs. The school conducts classes in marine science and technology education. Thunderbolt Elementary also offers character education and conflict resolution sessions. The school operates a student council, band, chorus and orchestra. It organizes family nights and social events. In addition, Thunderbolt Elementary school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
