As a welfare reform agency, UMOS supports Hispanic migrants and seasonal farm workers in Wisconsin. Established in 1965, UMOS is a private, nonprofit corporation that provides programs and services to improve the employment, educational, health and housing opportunities of under-served groups. The corporation is funded as a direct grantee program and a delegate agency of the Texas Migrant Council. It is supported by various federal, state and local agencies. UMOS provides education to academically and economically disadvantaged adults and youths who desire to improve their basic education level and enhance their employment opportunities. It has a resource center that offers crisis intervention, client advocacy, case management and support services. It also offers community outreach and workforce development programs. In addition, the agency sponsors and organizes a number of cultural and community events in Wisconsin. Headquartered in Milwaukee, UMOS programs operate throughout the state of Wisconsin, as well as in Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri and Texas.
