United Cerebral Palsy of New York City is a nonprofit agency located in New York, N.Y., that provides direct services, technology and advocacy to children and adults of all ages with cerebral palsy and related disabilities. UCP/NYC provides a variety of services to New York City residents with disabilities and their families, including early intervention and preschool education, evaluation services, an early childhood development center, a daycare and universal pre-kindgergarten, school age education, health care, residential programs, family support services, adult day programs, after school and weekend recreation programs, summer day camp and assisted technology resources. UCP/NYC was founded in 1946 by a group of New York City parents with children who had cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a term used to describe a group of chronic conditions affecting body movement and muscle coordination. It is caused by damage to one or more specific areas of the brain and typically occurs during fetal development; before, during or shortly following birth; or during infancy.
