United Drugs was founded in 1976 as a cooperative of independent pharmacists in Arizona. Over the past 30 years, it has expanded into more than 33 states. The cooperative s early mission was to allow independent pharmacists to remain competitive by pooling their purchasing power. Over the years, United Drugs' services have expanded to include third-party and managed-care contracting, front-end programs, insurance, host capabilities, central fill and special buys. Members receive exclusive discount prices on brands, generics and over-the-counter products through United Drugs' sole source agreement with Cardinal Health. United Drugs also has contracts with more than 70 additional vendors that provide discounts on programs and services.
