The Arkansas Center for Addictions Research, Education & Services is a division of the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Department of Psychiatry. Arkansas CARES is a nonprofit residential prevention and treatment program for mothers who are affected by substance abuse of alcohol, crack cocaine, methamphetamine or other drugs. The treatment program at Arkansas CARES is a four-to-six month program for women and their children. The women learn how to overcome addictions and stay sober and also learn about parenting, relationships, family and communication and job skills. There is no visitation or off-site passes in the initial stage of treatment. Women come to the program from the courts, child protective services, health care workers, prison, walk in or families bring them. The program has been established for more than 10 years and has sites in Little Rock and North Little Rock, Ark.
