Founded in 1968, the University of Texas Police Department is certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The department offers various crime prevention and law enforcement programs. It also offers alcohol awareness and personal safety programs and conducts lighting and security surveys. In addition, the University of Texas Police Department provides bicycle registration services, theft prevention programs, and crime prevention tips and presentations. It has an honor guard team that represents the department at funerals of fallen officers, memorial activities, academy graduation ceremonies and university events.
