The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, founded in 1972, was created by the University of Texas System Board of Regents. It is located at the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is comprised of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Nursing, Dental Branch, Medical School and the School of Public Health. The center is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award certificate, bachelor, masters, doctoral and professional degrees. It enrolls more than 3,500 students and maintains over 40 owned buildings and leases facilities spread over an area of nearly 4 million square feet.
