Established in 1975, CSD, also known as Communication Service for the Deaf, is a private, nonprofit organization that provides broad-based sign language interpreting services for deaf and adults with hearing impairments in South Dakota. It offers services to ensure public accessibility and increase awareness of issues affecting individuals with speech disabilities. The organizational provides independent living skills training, peer support and counseling, self-advocacy, technical assistance, education, outreach and referral services. CSD additionally offers social and human service programs, as well as telecommunications relay services. It also provides recreational, transportation and transitional housing services. The organization employs more than 2,000 individuals and operates offices throughout the United States. Headquartered in Sioux Falls, S.D., CSD maintains a location in Syracuse, N.Y.
