Established in 1914, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is a non-profit organization fostering camaraderie among the United States veterans of overseas conflicts. Based in Phoenix, Ariz., it operates more than 7,600 posts comprising 54 departments across the U.S., the District of Columbia, Latin America, the Pacific areas and Europe. The VFW's membership eligibility criteria includes those serving honorably in the U.S. armed forces in a foreign war or overseas operation recognized by a campaign medal, recipients of hostile-fire or imminent danger pay. The National Council of Administration serves as the Veterans of Foreign Wars' board of directors.
