Vons is one of the largest retail supermarket chains in Southern California. The company was founded by Charles Von der Ahe in 1906. Vons maintains more than 330 stores in Southern California and Nevada, under two brands that includes Vons supermarkets and Pavilions stores. It offers a range of bakery, dairy, deli, frozen, grocery, liquor, meat, health and beauty items. The retailer s bakery products include breads, doughnuts, cakes, pies and cookies. Its dairy departments offer a range of items that includes milk, butter, cream, puddings, cheese and eggs. The company has more than 30, 400 employees. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Safeway, which is one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States. The company operates more than 1,700 stores in the West, Southwest, Rocky Mountain and Mid-Atlantic states, and in western Canada. Headquartered in Arcadia, Calif., Vons maintains a location in San Diego.
