Western Garden Center was created in July of 1957 in Salt Lake City. It was, at that time, purchased by S.W. Clayton and Dwight Walton who had previously managed the business for the Porter-Walton Company, which company elected to concentrate strictly on the wholesale distribution business. We are, in effect, the uninterrupted continuation of a business begun in 1905.The Salt Lake location at 550 South 600 East, was developed in 1949 with a building addition in 1966. The landscape division was sold in 1970 to provide additional space for our retail functions. The West Valley operation began in 1962 and moved to 3033 West 3500 South in 1972. We built a new West Valley store at 4050 West 4100 South and moved there in November of 2000.The Sandy store was opened for retail business in the spring of 1979. The greenhouses there were previously used by a grower, we converted the site to retail use. Our remodeled store opened in 2008, featuring a new reception center, The Atrium at Western Gardens. Our goal is to be the preferred garden shop for Wasatch Front gardeners, the best customer for our suppliers, the most enjoyable workplace for our staff, and a good investment for our owners. We feel good about where we stand regarding these goals and intend, with your help, to continue to lead the way in our industry.
