Established in 1972, The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is one of the largest nutritional programs in the United States for low-income and pregnant women and children. The program operates under the government of the city of Atlanta. It includes health screening and nutritional assessment and education services. The Women, Infants and Children program serves more than 275,000 people. The program is administered by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, which provides family planning, mental health care and adoption services. The department also offers foster care, individual protection and financial assistance services.
