Established in 1989, the York Street Project is a network of programs that helps homeless and economically disadvantaged women and children. The project operates Kenmare High School, which is a nationally accredited alternative high school. The high school offers educational programs and practical job training and life skills to women who have dropped out of the public school system. Its St. Mary's Residence serves a housing and program support facility for working women with limited incomes. Located in Jersey City, N.J., the York Street Project also operates an early childhood development center for homeless and poor children between the ages of 4 months and 9 years. The project provides formal counseling, home visits and child care support for homeless mothers and their children.
